Example Projects

Automatic article selection for a summary article (R)

Problem: Help researchers classify articles as relevant to topic or not.

Solution: Train a SVM on a manually classified training set balanced through SMOTE and vectorized through Latent Semantic Analysis

Result: Successful exclusion of hundreds of irrelevant articles from list

A Shiny web-app to understand modern scholarly publishing (R)

Problem: What is the state of scholarly publishing today?

Solution: Get data (citations, tweets…) of 195,000 PLoS articles into Shiny app

Result: An interactive analysis app for everyone to use here

Regression-based analysis of human fMRI brain data (Matlab)

Problem: Reveal brain activity differences from fMRI signal

Solution: I put people in an MRI scanner & manipulated what was heard.

The analysis uses 2 steps: 1) a person-specific multiple regression 2) a group ANOVA on the beta weights from step 1

Result: What people heard changed their brain activity, see article here.
